When words fail you

UGH. I have nothing to write. I have nothing to say! I'm a nobody with a vanilla life. If it wasn't for this bowl cut, I'd be devoid of intrigue entirely.

But, instead of throwing in the towel and hitting the big, red 'delete' button on Madgespace, I shall endure! I SHAN'T GIVE UP.

Instead, I will let you in on the made-up, nonsensical lyrics Andy and I have for songs.

'Battlefield' by Jordin Sparks
  • "Why does love always feel like a wagon wheel? A wagon wheel, a wagon wheel.."
Lean On' by Major Lazer & DJ Snake, (feat. MØ)
  • "Farkis, Car2Go...all we need is somebody to lean on."
'Royals' by Lorde
  • "That kind of luxe just ain't for us, we drive a different kind of bus."

Those lyric changes are't funny. They're not clever. They're not even interesting. But what they do indicate is that, if you spend enough time with someone, you form your own language.

You also start to stockpile inside jokes that are so unfunny they're not so much jokes as 'inside thought moments'. These parallel brain experiences are set off by the smallest things—a certain word in a radio ad, the way the bus driver's cough sounds, a particular appetizer offering at a party. Whatever it may be, you'll look across the room at each other with a knowing grin and nod. Yes, we both caught that. We're thinking the same, pointless thing. Indeed, that man's cough sounded like that one part of that one YouTube video that we like to quote on occasion. No need to talk about it. Just a grin and a brief nod is enough.

Couldn't find a good image for 'telepathy', so I Googled 'staring contest' instead.

Goodnight,
Margaret

P.S. I'm pretty sure this blog made zero sense, but it reminded me of that time Barbie and I said "There's a snake in my boot" in unison completely unprovoked. Something—an airplane passing overhead, the smell of popcorn wafting down the hall, a slight flicker in the light—must have caused us to both think it and vocalize it. But we'll never know exactly why it happened.

Reunited and it feels so strange

Andy and I are in Vancouver at the Best Western Sands hotel.

We spent the afternoon walking through Stanley Park before heading to a neighborhood Italian bistro for a pork chop (Andy) and prawn spaghetti (me). Now we're sitting in bed watching Ninja Warrior, a show where normal-but-in-shape people attempt a large obstacle course full of hanging nets, balance beams and monkey bars. Safe to say it's the best show on TV. Totally picking up where Mad Men left off.

Before this afternoon, Andy and I hadn't seen each other for 88 days. That's more than 12 weeks! The big reunion was wonderful, but above all else it was STRANGE. He seemed so familiar yet also so new. It was like meeting someone from a past life.

One major perk of our three months apart? We have things to say to each other! We have stories! Gossip! New thoughts and opinions! Andy gave me the update on all his friends and I told him where all my nieces and nephews are at in their various stages of potty training.

Hold on. Why type when I can express my feelings in song?

Goodnight!
Margaret

P.S. Considering how many engagement photos I wade through on Facebook every day, I'm not going to apologize for this borderline gushy post.

P.S. Look, he's asleep!

Reunited with the love of my life

One upside of coming back from vacation is getting to catch up on all the shows you missed while you were away. There's a whole heap of them ready and waiting to entertain me! Real Housewives of Atlanta finale, Mad Men, Better Call Saul, The Americans...the list goes on.

Actually, I almost forgot to blog. It doesn't happen often, but tonight I came close to failing my Year-28 challenge.

The whole day I've been looking forward to getting under the covers and putting in some serious TV time. Madgespace was far from my mind. I was watching Episode 2 of Season 2 of Silicon Valley when I thought, "CRAP! I still need to blog!"

Cuddling with my best friend.

Reasons why I love TV

  • Watching TV is one of the few times I truly relax.
  • It's tradition to pair TV with a delicious snack, such as pretzels + string cheese or tea + cookie.
  • TV these days is GOOD. Did you ever watch Boardwalk Empire? Every episode is like a big budget film.
  • Each show has a Subreddit dedicated to it, providing hours of additional entertainment in the form of crazy theories, behind-the-scenes gossip and fan art. This is particularly good for "deep" shows like Mad Men, where fans explain the more complex themes of each episode that would otherwise go right over my head. That said, I spend most of my time on /r/BravoRealHousewives and /r/rupaulsdragrace.
  • Watching movies takes too long. Attention spans aren't what they used to be.
  • It's PASSIVE. Zero effort required.

Gotta go. Lots to watch before my eyelids decide to quit for the day.

Nighty,

Margaret
