Where my INFJs at?

I did a personality test today. Cast your mind back to my dark days of employment and you'll recall I'm not usually a fan of them. It annoys me to be reduced to one of four colors when I'm as complex as the color wheel, as vibrant as the rainbow!

But there's a bit more to the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator model than the Color Code Personality Profile. In this one, there are 16 possible personality types and it's based on your preference of introversion vs. extroversion, sensing vs. intuition, thinking vs. feeling and judging vs. perceiving.

What do those words even mean? Your guess is as good as mine. All I know is that I took the test and I'm an INFJ, also known as 'The Advocate'.

We are rare. We make up only 1–2% of the population. We're introverts masquerading as extroverts. We're creative, passionate, insightful and convincing. But hot damn if we aren't over sensitive. Criticize us and we flip out. SO DON'T DO IT.

Sounds about right.

What's alarming is the company I'm in. My INFJ compatriots include:
  • Ayatollah Khomeini
  • Osama Bin Laden
  • Chiang Kai-shek
  • Robert Mugabe
  • Adolf Hilter

Well, great. As they say, you can't choose your family.

But we do have David Schwimmer, so we can't all be bad.

Also, the other thing to keep in mind is that it's all a load of BULL ROAR.

HA! I'm still not convinced. And you know I'm right. Even though it's fun to take the test and analyze yourself, the reality is that people are complex. There aren't just 16 of us, but 7 billion! This one may be better than the colors but, much like me and my faux extroversion, it's just old school clickbait masquerading as science.

Still, I recommend taking the test for the entertainment value alone. You'll find some of the results are pretty spot-on. For example, it said that INFJs make good bloggers. I swear!

Also, it said that there are just enough Andys in the world (ESTPs) to keep things spicy, but not so many that it would cause a systemic risk to humankind. Phew!

TAKE THE TEST

Things that need to stop

Please find below a list of things that we, society, need to put the kibosh on.

Cartoon boogers in cold/flu medicine ad.

Cartoon poop germs in toilet cleaner ads.

Leaf blowers.

Male skinny jeans.

Mini bluetooth headsets.

Red Delicious apples.

Cement medians between parking spaces.

Decaf.

Using "Remainder" / "R" when doing long devision.

Toe rings.

Toe socks.

Toe shoes.

The Big Bang Theory (the show, not the theory).

The 12-hour clock ("military time", as we call it in North America, causes far less confusion).

Headlights with eyelashes.

Stuffed animals in the rear window of the car.

Celebs + Instagram + Photoshop.

Low fat yogurt.

ewwwwwww.
I don't even think toe rings are a thing anymore. But still.

What would you add to my list?

Wouldn't it be great if...

My 2.5-year-old nephew Freddie is at that age where he knows what he wants, and he's not afraid to voice it! To avoid the back-and-forth and discourage the whining, a tactic my Mom taught us, and the one I notice my sister using, is to simply agree and say, in a very cheery voice, "Oh yeah, wouldn't that be great?" or "Yum, a cookie does sound good. I wish we had some too." It's pretty disarming.

So, to take a leaf out of that parenting book, instead of phrasing the following list in typical Madgespace whine format, I'm going to keep it positive and take a "Wouldn't it be great?" approach instead. I'm not complaining, I'm dreaming!

Wouldn't it be great if...

...a benevolent rich person gave me a famous painting as a gift, which I could then sell to buy a house and get on that dang property ladder I've heard so much about?

...my significant other enjoyed back massages as much as me?

...Walt Disney World was a two-hour train journey away, and cost just enough to stop me from going weekly, but not too much to stop me from going altogether (about £30)?

...there was a rail bridge over the Atlantic?

...Starbust sold packs of just reds and pinks?*

...we could buy a custom teeth-flossing machine from our dentist that was moulded just for our mouth and would be like one of those circular apple slicers, yet with floss instead of blades?

Like this, but shaped for a mouth and with floss instead of the slicers.

...Pinterest didn't act like it knew me? It don't know me.

...you could edit a tweet? See below.

...."boyfriend" style jeans weren't just a nice concept, but actually looked flattering when worn?

...the first sunny, hot day of the year (75°F/23°C) was always considered an automatic, federally-mandated holiday? At least for people living above a certain latitude?

...if we could go back in time and make fun of people for writing with quills? HAHAHAHHAHAHAH. Losers!

Love,
Margaret

*Edit: Turns out, this exists and I've actually already blogged about it before. Thanks to cousin Clare for letting me know! #GroundhogDay
