Edinburgh’s Loss is Kenmore’s Gain

Guest blog week continues with Stradbally's finest caricature artist William Donal Kearns sharing his thoughts on my absolute favourite topic of all: ME! Well played, William. Well played.

As the days and minutes tick down to March 17th, reminiscing about the life of ‘Bobo’ (as my son Freddie calls her) in Scotland will be a topic on many people’s minds. Bobo came to sunny Scotland in 2009 as a young, wee, single and ready to mingle American lassie, carrying only a large blue rucksack and her fair share of digestive issues.

Shortly after arriving, Bobo managed to warm the hearts of many people with her friendly, caring and spontaneous personality. And none more than the posh English gentleman who she joined for afternoon tea her first month in Edinburgh. She had him hooked in no time.

After an initial stint of studying to become a minister, Bobo soon decided to ditch that idea and enter the working world. She was an instant hit with her colleagues at LBi but none more so than her close-knit friendship with her fellow ‘divas.’

Next was a (very) short stint at Sainsbury's Bank, which proved to be her last and probably ever job working under someone else’s authority. She strived to become an independent woman and soon began to take matters into her own hands and became her own boss. Safe to say it’s probably the best decision she has ever made for more reasons than one.

Meeting Bobo and having her as part of our lives in Edinburgh has been truly amazing. Not only has she been a great Auntie to our little ones Freddie and Elsie, but also a wonderful friend to us all and not to mention, an ideal babysitter to have around.

Char and I count ourselves lucky to have had her continued support around and loving friendship and look forward to our future with her in the great Pacific Northwest.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your friendship, support and the everlasting memories from your time well spent in Edinburgh.

Ps. Ill leave you with a drawing of Bobo herself and of course the founder of this great name, little Freddie!

Night out

Two words: night out.

I'm going on one! Tonight!

It's my friend Igor's 30th birthday and to celebrate we're going to a nightclub to boogie into the wee hours. I might wear eyeshadow. It's gonna be wild.

I still remember when I was first introduced to the concept of a 'night out'. It was freshman year of college and my cousin Clare, always hip to the jive and one step ahead of me, asked, "Are you going out tonight?"

I'd never heard anyone phrase it like that.

Going out? Going out where? Safeway? To take the garbage out?

What I later gleaned from context was that 'going out' or going on a 'night out' meant wearing your best top, drinking alcohol, listening to music and dancing with friends and strangers alike.

This is what a 'night out' looks like. Barbie and Madge circa 2010.

Anyway, it's been a while since I've been on a night out. But I have a fresh bowl cut and I'm ready to go. Let's do this.

TGIF,
Margaret

Poland, you've got some explaining to do

I've just returned from a fantastic pizza-filled Diva Night at Char's.

We watched the latest episode of Project Runway All Stars, which is the worst show in the world with unlikable designers, crap challenges, crap judges and a terrible 14-month pregnant Alyssa Milano as host. Bring back normal Project Runway NOW.

After the main event, we moved on to YouTubing pop music videos from the early 2000s, as per usual. We watched "He Loves Me Not" by Dream,  "I'm Real", J.Lo's embowering duet with Ja Rule, and even a random girl dressed up to look like Britney Spears performing "I'm a Slave For You" for the MTV show 'Becoming'.

Then I asked Jakub, who is from Poland, if there were any Polish boybands back in the day.

"Yes," he said. "There was one. They were called 'Just 5'."

And in a flash I had Just 5's hit song "Kolorowe sny" blaring through the laptop speakers. It didn't take long for me to realise something was terribly, terribly wrong.

Watch and listen for yourself:

Notice anything strange? No? Well, does the song below ring a bell?

Just because you're singing in gobbledegook doesn't mean we can't tell that song is a BACKSTREET BOYS SONG! It's almost the same exact backing track.

Just 5. Because there are just five of them. Get it?

Something is fishy here, and I bet you anything Lou Pearlman is at the bottom of it.

Cheers,
Margaret

P.S. Who's cuter, Polish Nick Carter or real Nick Carter?

Troop Beverly Pizza / Best of Michael Kors

It's Diva Night at my flat, and we're ordering pizza! I keep singing 'Cookie Time' from Troop Beverly Hills to myself, but instead of saying 'cookie time', I'm saying 'PIZZA TIME'!!!! HAHAHAHAHHA

Oh man, Troop Beverly Hills is such a fantastic flick.

Reminds me, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is starting back up next week! I'm a bit worried that all their storylines have been played out, but you can always count on Brandi to bring the drama, and did you see that Kim's dog (speaking of played out storylines) bit Kyle's daughter? She had to get surgery and stay overnight at the hospital. I hope to dear god they were filming at the time, but I have a hunch that filming had wrapped already. Still, we'll hear about it at the reunion fo sho.

It's been a busy day of writing, and I have bit of a headache lingering around the ol' left eye (that's why they call me Grassy 'Left Eye' Llama), so I'm going to have to leave it at that.

As Dr. Laura would say: "Now, go take on the day!"

Love,
Margaret

OK, Diva Night is over now and gosh darn it if I don't feel a bit guilty about writing such a short post earlier. I'm going to make up for it by writing a bit more down here below my sign-off.

Three things:

1. The pizza was a hit!

2. We Googled 'Best of  Michael Kors Project Runway' and the video we found really delivered. Watch it and LOL until the cows come home.

3. I've been terrified to use my migraine medicine, because it's serious stuff and has tons of potential side effects. But tonight, when I felt the classic Friday night headache festering behind my left eye, I decided to bite the bullet at swallow the pill. Guess what? My headache went away. AND I'm still alive. Turns out, medicine works. I'm thrilled!

Goodbye again,

Margie

Just in case...

I'm scheduling this post just in case I am having too much fun to write anything tonight. My friends and I are meeting for 'Diva Night', our bi-monthly evening of reality TV watching, snacking and gossiping. On tonight's agenda: Project Runway finale and the latest America's Next Top Model.

Hopefully I will make it back in time to write something more substantial. But just in case, here's something to ponder:

Remember that MTV show 'Room Raiders'? It's that show where a guy or gal searches through the bedrooms of three potential suitors and chooses one of them to take on a date based solely on their cleanliness/fashion sense/choice of bedspread. Yeah, that show wasn't very good. It wasn't at the time, and looking back now, I stand by that assessment. Mainly because it was staged and because you didn't get to see the actual dates.

OK, bye!
